Mahaseel Souq in Katara is a temporary, small-scale market where local farmers sell vegetables, flowers and plants, honey, fresh juices, dairy products and meat directly to consumers. The pop-up market will run until 30 April 2017.
Though small compared to the Central Market off Salwa Road—there are only about 30 stalls in total—Mahaseel Souq is conveniently located for Doha residents who live far from Salwa Road and would rather avoid the long drive.
Mahaseel Souq’s prices are unbeatable for locally produced goods—a litre of fresh milk is about QR 5, while vegetarian-fed chicken is about QR 20 per kilo. Vegetable prices start at QR 3 per kilo, and plants can be purchased for as little as QR 1 for a small pot.
The market is adjacent to the also temporary Magical Festival Village. This hosts, among other things, a market that includes a spice shop (to complete your grocery shopping) and numerous restaurants and cafés.
Location: In the parking area behind Katara Cultural Village, opposite the entrance to The St. Regis Doha
Hours: Thursday and Saturday 08:00–21:00; Friday 15:00–21:00
