Babymoons: Maternity Breaks to Celebrate Your Pregnancy
Chances are you have been run off your feet lately shopping for all the essential baby gear, setting up a nursery, stocking the freezer and visiting doctors.
Now that you have dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s for the preparation of your newborn it’s time to book a romantic babymoon to spend some quality time with your other half. A babymoon is a great way to strengthen the bond with your partner as well as relax and enjoy some downtime before two becomes three and the little one takes over for a while.
Here are some fabulous destinations all less than an eight-hour direct flight from Qatar that will leave you and your partner invigorated and ready for your new arrival.
Maldives – 4 hours
The Maldives is one of most desirable destinations in the world and an ultimate destination for a babymoon. Soak up the sun, stroll endless white sandy beaches, swim in crystal blue lagoons and explore colourful reefs. Enjoy candlelight dinners on the beach, spa treatments, snorkelling and sunset cruises. Portugal – 7 hours 30 minutes
Never too hot or too cold, the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is a desirable destination year round. Whether you are after ancient or modern sightseeing, it will not disappoint. Don’t miss Sao Jorge Castle, Lisbon City Museum and World Heritage sites such as Jerónimos Monastery and Tower of Belem. The Lisbon Oceanarium is the largest indoor aquarium in Europe. Just outside of Lisbon is a succession of Atlantic beaches known for stunning sunsets, flamingos and dolphins. Sri Lanka – 4 hours 45 minutes
Feast your eyes on temples, wildlife sanctuaries and exotic tropical gardens. From relaxing on the golden beaches to enjoying the clear waters of the Indian Ocean, mums-to-be can also indulge in energising massages and luxury facials. Dads might like to climb the ancient rock fortress, Sigiriya, or visit 17th century Galle Fort before joining mum to be in a private yoga session for two. Another main attraction is the Ceylon Tea Trails, make sure you take a tour of a local plantation for an interesting insight and tasting. Lastly, enjoy the myriad of delicious fragranced flavoured dishes Sri Lanka has to offer.
France – 7 hours 15 minutes
France is the most visited country in the world, and the ultimate “city of love”, Paris, is a sure fire way to invigorate your passion. Take a trip up the Eiffel Tower (don’t forget to pre-book), watch a show at the iconic Moulin Rouge, visit the Love Wall in Montmartre and indulge in one of its many Michelin star restaurants or cafes. Dig in to baguettes, croissants, cream cakes and pastries, macaroons, custard tarts; the choices are endless in this food lover’s city. And let’s not forget the shopping! Stock up on stylish baby wear, nursery décor and chic clothing for mums-to-be.
Venice – 6 hours 25 minutes
It’s no wonder Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world—even George Clooney chose Venice as the location of his marriage to Amal Alamuddin. Hop aboard a gondola, sit back, relax and gaze into each other other’s eyes. Imagine a time gone by and marvel at the exquisitely and impressively decorated Palazzo di Venezia. Don’t forget to sample Venice’s renowned sweets including the Frittole (fritters) and the Galani (angel-wing pastry). Grab a blanket and basket packed with local goodies for your own impromptu romantic picnic.
Phuket – 6 hours 35 minutes
Escape to the rejuvenating tropical haven of Phuket to revitalise your body, mind and soul. Spend the entire day being pampered and massaged with honey, chocolate or tea. Most spas offer great massage services specifically tailored to the needs of a pregnant woman and their changing bodies. Phuket will leave you completely destressed and invigorated.
Rome – 5 hours and 10 minutes
It’s no wonder that “all roads lead to Rome” with its beautiful Mediterranean weather, ancient ruins, trove of art galleries and museums and historic landmarks. The city is bursting with sights to see and things to do such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, The Palatine Hill, Pompeii—the list is endless. Make sure to book guided tours to skip the lines. You won’t be able to get enough of the splendid Italian cuisine from chicken Parmigiana and Saltimbocca to a myriad of sauces and toppings full of robust flavours of garlic, rosemary and fresh tomato to accompany the fresh pasta and top the pizza.
